About the tides at American Bay

This is a mixed-tide station. Some days bring a deep low and a shallow low, and a few days have only one of each. The pattern follows the reference station at Sitka. The tide range here is very large, about 10.0 ft on average. Water can come in faster than you can walk across flats. Check the time before you go out. The next spring tides peak on October 11, with a range of 14.4 ft. Neap tides follow on Friday, when the range shrinks to 8.1 ft.

American Bay is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting Sitka: highs come about 1 min and lows about 1 min later than there. The nearest other station is Security Cove, 7 mi away, where high tide comes about 21 min earlier. For tidal currents, see Shoe Rock, 1 mile north of.
