About the tides at Big Bay

Big Bay has a semidiurnal tide: two highs and two lows of similar height each day, about 12 hours and 25 minutes apart. The pattern follows the reference station at Seldovia, Cook Inlet. Big Bay sees a mean range of about 11.4 ft. Low tide can expose a wide area, and the return is fast. That is larger than most Alaska stations on this site. Looking a year ahead, predictions peak at 17.2 ft on January 23 and bottom out at −4.2 ft on July 5.

Tides here are worked out from the reference station at Seldovia, Cook Inlet, with NOAA time and height corrections. Times are good for planning, but local wind can shift them. The nearest other station is Carry Inlet, 4 mi away. For tidal currents, see Lighthouse Point, Shuyak Island.
