About the tides at Muir Inlet

Tides here are mixed. On average the two daily highs differ by 2.2 ft, so check which low is the lower one before you head out. The pattern follows the reference station at Elfin Cove, Port Althorp. Muir Inlet sees a mean range of about 13.7 ft. Low tide can expose a wide area, and the return is fast. That is larger than most Alaska stations on this site. Over the next two weeks the biggest daily range, 20.3 ft, comes on Sunday, and the smallest, 9.4 ft, on October 16. Looking a year ahead, predictions peak at 21.7 ft on December 24 and bottom out at −3.9 ft on July 5.

Tides here are worked out from the reference station at Elfin Cove, Port Althorp, with NOAA time and height corrections. Times are good for planning, but local wind can shift them. NOAA measured the tide here from 1940 to 2009 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Wachusett Inlet, 8 mi away.
