About the tides at Point Charles
Expect two roughly equal high tides a day at Pt. Charles, Gage 'c', Key Largo, each arriving about 50 minutes later than the day before. The pattern follows the reference station at Government Cut, Miami Harbor Entrance. The mean range is small, about 1.8 ft, so wind and pressure can matter as much as the tide itself. The next spring tides peak tomorrow, with a range of 2.4 ft. Neap tides follow on October 19, when the range shrinks to 1.3 ft. In the next 12 months the highest predicted tide here is 2.6 ft on September 29, and the lowest is −0.5 ft on January 23.
Point Charles is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting Government Cut, Miami Harbor Entrance: highs come about 25 min and lows about 113 min later than there. NOAA measured the tide here in 1975 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Rock Harbor, 0.2 mi away.
