About the tides at Port Chatham

Tides here follow a regular twice-daily rhythm. The two daily highs usually differ by only 1.0 ft. The pattern follows the reference station at SELDOVIA, Kachemak Bay. Port Chatham sees a mean range of about 11.6 ft. Low tide can expose a wide area, and the return is fast. That is larger than most Alaska stations on this site. Over the next two weeks the biggest daily range, 18.7 ft, comes on Sunday, and the smallest, 5.8 ft, on October 18. Looking a year ahead, predictions peak at 17.4 ft on January 23 and bottom out at −5.0 ft on July 5.

Tides here are worked out from the reference station at SELDOVIA, Kachemak Bay, with NOAA time and height corrections. Times are good for planning, but local wind can shift them. NOAA measured the tide here in 1982 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Port Graham, 10 mi away, where high tide comes about 20 min later. For tidal currents, see Port Chatham.
