About the tides at Shakan Bay Entrance
Tides here are mixed. On average the two daily highs differ by 1.2 ft, so check which low is the lower one before you head out. The pattern follows the reference station at Sitka. With a mean range of about 9.3 ft, the shoreline here changes a lot between high and low water. Over the next two weeks the biggest daily range, 13.7 ft, comes on Sunday, and the smallest, 4.7 ft, on October 17. Looking a year ahead, predictions peak at 14.4 ft on December 24 and bottom out at −3.2 ft on July 5.
Tides here are worked out from the reference station at Sitka, with NOAA time and height corrections. Times are good for planning, but local wind can shift them. NOAA measured the tide here from 1955 to 1998 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Shakan Strait, 6 mi away, where high tide comes about 6 min later. For tidal currents, see Shakan Strait, west end.
Predictions are based on Sitka.
