About the tides at Shakan Strait

Tides here are mixed. On average the two daily highs differ by 1.5 ft, so check which low is the lower one before you head out. The pattern follows the reference station at Sitka. The range is large, about 9.3 ft on average. Flats and bars appear and vanish quickly, so keep an eye on the time. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 11.5 ft.

Shakan Strait is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting Sitka: highs come about 7 min and lows about 10 min earlier than there.
