About the tides at Stonington
Expect two roughly equal high tides a day at Deer Isle, each arriving about 50 minutes later than the day before. The pattern follows the reference station at Bar Harbor, Frenchman Bay. The range is large, about 9.4 ft on average. Flats and bars appear and vanish quickly, so keep an eye on the time. The next spring tides peak tomorrow, with a range of 11.3 ft. Neap tides follow on October 19, when the range shrinks to 6.4 ft. In the next 12 months the highest predicted tide here is 12.0 ft on August 4, and the lowest is −1.7 ft on January 23.
Stonington is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting Bar Harbor, Frenchman Bay: highs come about 8 min and lows about 6 min later than there. The nearest other station is Oceanville, 3 mi away, where high tide comes about 7 min later. For tidal currents, see Russ Island, N of, Deer Island Thorofare.
Predictions are based on Bar Harbor, Frenchman Bay.
